About Me

I'm Dhananjay Tomar, but everyone just calls me DJay. I'm originally from a small town in western Uttar Pradesh, India. Delhi is where I spent my teenage years and am culturally 100% Delhiite. From Delhi I moved to Switzerland for my Master's, then to Germany for my first full-time machine-learning job, and now to Oslo, where I work as a researcher at ICGI / Oslo University Hospital while trying to finish my PhD at the University of Oslo.

Most of my work starts where tidy benchmark assumptions end: hospitals change, scanners change, labels are noisy, images are absurdly large, and neural networks discover shortcuts nobody asked them to learn. At ICGI, I'm currently working on cancer-survival prediction, label denoising, and robustness to scanner differences. My PhD work is broader—robust and efficient deep learning for histopathology and computer vision.

I also spent almost four years teaching "Deep Learning for Image Analysis" at UiO. At peak I lectured almost half the course. I co-supervised two Master's students.

Outside work my interests span running, weight training, physics, dancing, reading, and science in general. I'm also exceptionally good at finding new research side quests when I'm supposed to be finishing the PhD.
